In addition to the more technical writing that I do as a professional policy analyst, I also write for fun. I have participated in &#8211; and completed! &#8211; the National Novel Writing Month (<a style=\"background-color: #ffffff; font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-size: 1rem; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\" href=\"https:\/\/nanowrimo.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NaNoWriMo<\/a>) three times. A full list of my contributions can be found on my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlasobscura.com\/users\/gypsyblue\">profile<\/a>, but here are some of my favourites:<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\t\t\n\t\t\t<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlasobscura.com\/places\/fernweh-park\">Fernweh Park (Bavaria, Germany)<\/a><\/h4>\t\t\n\t\t<p><em>Named after the German word for &#8220;a longingness to travel,&#8221; this park brings together thousands of city and street signs from around the world.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\n\t\t\t<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlasobscura.com\/places\/german-russian-museum-karlshorst\">German-Russian Museum (Berlin, Germany)<\/a><\/h4>\t\t\n\t\t<p><em>A museum in the building where Nazi Germany signed its surrender tells the story of World War II from the Soviet perspective.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\n\t\t\t<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlasobscura.com\/places\/lesniewo-u-boat-locks-masurian-canal\">Le\u015bniewo U-Boat Locks (Masuria, Poland)<\/a><\/h4>\t\t\n\t\t<p><em>Built to transport German U-boats through the never-completed Masurian Canal, the locks near this Polish village are now home to a rope course.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\n\t\t\t<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlasobscura.com\/places\/svetlogorsk-beach-gondolas\">Svetlogorsk Beach Gondolas (Kaliningrad, Russia)<\/a><\/h4>\t\t\n\t\t<p><em>These tiny cabins on a cableway have been carrying visitors at a Baltic resort down to the beach since 1912. <\/em><\/p>\t\t\n\t\t\t<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlasobscura.com\/places\/rheinsberg-nuclear-power-plant\">Rheinsberg Nuclear Power Plant (Brandenburg, Germany)<\/a><\/h4>\t\t\n\t\t<p><em>This decommissioned nuclear power plant offers tours of its Communist-era control room and reactor hall.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\n\t\t\t<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.atlasobscura.com\/places\/hexentanzplatz-witches-dance-floor\">Witches&#8217; Dance Floor (Harz Mountains, Germany)<\/a><\/h4>\t\t\n\t\t<p><em>This enchanting mountain plateau celebrates spooky local folklore.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\n\t\t\t<h3>Literary Translation<\/h3>\t\t\n\t\t<p>In addition to my original writing, I also do <a href=\"https:\/\/krisbest.com\/translation\/\">literary translations<\/a>\u00a0from German (and, more rarely, from French).
